Aldous Huxley, the author of Brave New World, moved from the U.K. to the U.S. in his 40s to branch out into screenwriting.

One of the best parts of being a documentary filmmaker or being a journalist, is having the ability to capture people, places, and ideas that might otherwise go unseen, and then sharing them with the world.
Ron Fricke, the director of Baraka and Samsara, has made films with no narrative, only a swelling, reverent score, leaving the viewer to add her own commentary. In Baraka, he has shown us from the opening scene in which you can almost touch the steamed, matted fur on Japanese snow monkeys in their alpine bath, it gives you a front-row seat to our planet’s diverse happenings. The chill of Auschwitz’s rusted chambers is palpable, as is the warmth of breaking dawn on a lone street sweeper in Durbar Square, Nepal. And then, you have Life in a Day by Kevin Macdonald and Loressa Clisby, the Baraka of the YouTube era, with 80,000 video submissions from all walks were whittled to an intimate 90 minutes, filled with everyday moments - sizzling eggs at breakfast, a man admiring a woman on the subway - and extraordinary ones; a Japanese boy praying to his dead mother’s shrine, a young gay man coming out to his grandma. We all eat, sleep, communicate, and get around, but Life in a Day reminds us of the myriad ways in which these universality take shape. The greatest documentaries have been created by talented documentary filmmakers and journalists after their multiple voyage to the foreign lands.

SEEKING WHAT ARE THE NEWEST TRENDS?
Travel is probably the single-most acknowledged inspiration for fashion designers, many of whom take abstract, and sometimes very literal, cues from artists, architecture, uniforms and even vintage clothing that they discover on their trips.
Monique Péan loves to go to Colombia. Amy Smilovic gets inspired by Tokyo. And Derek Lam becomes more creative in Bhutan. ‘Travel is the biggest inspiration for fashion designers’ says a Canadian-British Imran Amed, the founder and CEO of The Business of Fashion. He found creativity in tiny, offbeat places and the Hong Kong hotel won his heart.
Many designers travel for inspiration, and the destinations that inspired are far and wide, from the countryside of Japan (Joseph Altuzzara), to the sands of the Sahara desert (Chloé), to Sicily in all its ancient Greco-Roman glory (Dolce & Gabbana). Menswear designer Kim Jones’s recent collection was inspired by the royals of Rajasthan. Proenza Schouler’s Jack McCullough and Lazaro Hernandez usually cite a trip they’ve taken somewhere for each of their collections and last time, it was Cuba.
